Everything you need to know about the Government's plans to reduce the drink-drive limit in England and Wales

Tougher drink-drive limit: The UK Government is currently developing plans to introduce significantly tougher drink-driving limits across England and Wales. This measure is part of a new, wider road safety strategy and represents one of the biggest changes to the relevant laws in decades.

New limit confirmed: The most substantial change involves lowering the permissible alcohol limit for drivers when measured by breath. The limit is expected to be cut from the current 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath down to 22 micrograms.

Limit already exists in Scotland: This lower limit of 22 micrograms is already the established legal standard in Scotland
