A motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving five vehicles in Melbourne on Monday morning, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

According to troopers, it happened around 7:30 a.m. on U.S.-1 just north of Post Road when a driver in a Chevy Equinox failed to stop for the slowing cars ahead of it.

The Equinox hit the motorcycle then continued forward and hit another vehicle.

The motorcycle slid into two other cars after being hit, FHP said.

The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

The northbound lanes of US-1 are blocked in the area and drivers need to use Wickham Rd as a detour.

Southbound drivers are not impacted by the crash.
