Two watchmen, Edward Chibwana (45) and Shadreck Soko (40), have been arrested in Mzuzu for allegedly possessing 25 water meters believed to belong to the Northern Region Water Board (NRWB).
Mzuzu Police Spokesperson, Inspector Augustus Nkhwazi, confirmed that the arrests followed a tip-off from members of the public, which led to a police investigation.
Nkhwazi said that after their arrest, the suspects revealed they had received the water meters from an unnamed woman who allegedly offered them for sale.
The recovered items are yet to be verified by NRWB officials, and police investigations are ongoing to locate the woman involved.
The suspects are expected to appear in court to face charges of possession of property suspected to be stolen or unlawfully obtained.
