Driving on state Route 8 through Akron is getting a new twist starting today.
Northbound drivers on Route 8 will see a new traffic pattern and several ramp closures starting Dec. 1 as construction advances on a major bridge replacement project.
The Ohio Department of Transportation said three northbound lanes will shift onto the newly built southbound bridge. Three ramps will close through late fall 2027, including the northbound exit to Glenwood Avenue, the Perkins Street entrance to Route 8 north, and the Route 8 south exit to Buchtel Avenue.
Detours will be posted.
ODOT said occasional lane and ramp restrictions will continue between Glenwood Avenue and Perkins Street as work progresses.
