CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal hit and run involving a vehicle and a pedestrian that occurred in the Metro Division.
Officers responded to a hit and run crash with personal injury call for service near the 1200 block of North Tryon Street on Saturday.
Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive pedestrian, Howard Charles Pomnitz III, 56, in the roadway. MEDIC also responded and pronounced Mr. Pomnitz deceased at the scene.
The vehicle that struck Pomnitz, a black Chevrolet Cruze, was last seen traveling north on North Tryon Street.
Speed did not appear to be a factor for the vehicle involved in the crash, and it is unknown if impairment was a factor for the driver of the vehicle that struck Mr. Pom
