BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) – A long-standing Christmas tradition at the Houchens Center carries a deeper meaning this year, as organizers dedicated one of the event’s most recognizable trees to the late Romanza Johnson, a beloved supporter remembered for her generosity and volunteer spirit.

The “Trees of Christmas” Open House, now in its 47th year, fills the historic center with dozens of decorated trees from civic groups, organizations and individuals. But the Salvation Army-themed tree, placed in its familiar spot near the entrance, stands as a tribute to Johnson, who passed away earlier this year.

Carol Flora Collins, president of the Houchens Center Board, said the dedication honors Johnson’s commitment to helping others, especially during the cold winter months.
