(WPDE) — Monday marks World HIV/AIDS Day, a global initiative uniting in the fight against the illness by honoring the efforts to end it.
The day supports those living with HIV and honors the ones who have lost their lives to an AIDS related illness.
As of December 2023, DPH reported an estimated 20,000 South Carolinians were living with a diagnosed HIV infection.
“What continues to challenge us is eliminating the persistent disparities rooted in stigma, inequities, and misconceptions surrounding the virus and those affected by it.
