LEXINGTON, Ky. (WAVE) - The University of Kentucky has fired head football coach Mark Stoops Monday, days after a 41-0 blowout loss to archrival Louisville in the Governor’s Cup.
Stoops has been in control of the UK program for 13 years, taking over in his first head coaching role after a stint as Florida State’s defensive coordinator. He’s amassed a 82-80 record with the Cats which makes him the winningest coach in school history. His 4-4 record in bowl games marks program highs in both bowl wins and appearances. Saturday’s loss to the Cardinals dropped Kentucky’s record 5-7, eliminating the team from bowl contention in 2025.
