Gov. Tim Walz has responded to President Donald Trump's use of a slur that's widely considered derogatory towards people with intellectual disabilities.
Walz appeared on NBC show "Meet the Press" on Sunday and condemned a Truth Social post by Trump on Thanksgiving that referred to Walz as "seriously retarded."
"Look, Donald Trump insulting me is a badge of honor for me," Walz said. "But I think we all know – both as an educator for a couple decades and as a parent – using that term is just so damaging, it's hurtful." His son, Gus, is neurodivergent.
Walz claimed that this "type of hateful behavior and ... language" that's been normalized by Trump is being used "to distract from his incompetency," at a time when people are struggling to pay for groceries and heat their homes.
