Stranger Things production designer Chris Trujillo takes AD on a tour of the S5 set. He said as an 80s kid, it was fun to create what would have been the ideal place to hang out with his friends in the form of the Wheeler basement. Most of the props are authentic items from the 70s and 80s that they bought at estate sales. He said the history they imagined behind Hopper's cabin was that it was a bare bones hunting cabin that Hopper's grandfather built in the 1940s and gradually other things got added to it (like the plumbing) but that it was in a state of disrepair when Hopper needed a place to hide Eleven during S2.
