Thanksgiving morning brought a new tradition to Newnan this year as more than 400 runners lined up at Summergrove Town Hall for the Coweta Comets’ inaugural LINC’d Up Turkey Trot.
What organizers hoped would be a modest first effort quickly became one of the largest holiday running events the community has seen in years. According to race results, 409 runners finished the 5K and more than 60 children participated in the 1-mile fun run, far surpassing expectations for a debut event.

“We thought early on that 300 would help us break even,” said Comets representative Brent Snodgrass. “But with sponsorships and the huge turnout, we’re able to donate a lot to the schools.”
Feedback from runners made it clear that Newnan wanted its own Thanksgiving Day race again
