Sheldon Timothy Herrington Jr. was accused of murdering University of Mississippi student Jimmie "Jay" Lee in July 2022.
Lee, a 20-year-old member of the Oxford LGBTQ+ community, was reported missing by his mother.
Herrington's first capital murder trial in December 2024 ended in a mistrial, with a second trial scheduled for 2025.
Lee's remains were found by deer hunters in February 2025, and he had previously been declared legally dead.

Herrington pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and tampering with evidence in connection to Lee's death.
