ST. PAUL — Minnesota attorney Chris Madel announced his bid for the Republican nomination for governor on Monday, Dec. 1.

Madel enters an already crowded GOP race — with Speaker of the House Lisa Demuth and Rep. Kristin Robbins, as well as former gubernatorial candidates Kendall Qualls and Scott Jensen — all hoping to beat Gov. Tim Walz come November 2026.

In a news release, Madel said he would focus on crime, supporting law enforcement, affordability, the economy and education. He said he is “uniquely capable” of combating fraud with his background and that his campaign will not accept money from corporate PACs, unions or lobbyists.
