Syracuse, N.Y. — A Syracuse man who claimed his brother was responsible for a fatal stabbing last summer was sentenced Monday after a jury agreed he was equally responsible for the killing.

Darnell K. Jones, 30, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for first-degree manslaughter in the death of Willy Stridiron, 28, who was stabbed eight times behind a home at 245 Lincoln Ave. on June 15, 2024.

Jones’s defense attorney, Benjamin Coffin, had asked the judge to impose the minimum possible sentence — eight years.

Coffin argued that Jones’s mental disabilities, heavy drinking and the chaotic nature of the fight meant he should have faced a lesser charge and a lighter sentence. He also asked the judge to reconsider a lower-level charge, such as negligent homicide, saying Jones may not have full
