The Mississippi Highway Patrol has concluded its Thanksgiving enforcement period, reporting over 6,000 citations issued and two fatal crashes.

From Nov. 26 at 5 p.m. through Nov. 30 at midnight, state troopers were out in full force to ensure extra safety, according to Capt. Criss Turnipseed.

Turnipseed announced Monday that the MHP issued a total of 6,492 citations, made 85 arrests for impaired driving, and cited 577 motorists for seatbelt violations. Troopers also investigated 243 crashes that resulted in 43 injuries and two deaths.

The fatal crashes occurred in Walthall and Lincoln counties.

The total number of citations was down from the 2024 Thanksgiving enforcement period when troopers handed out 6,662 citations. Crashes saw an uptick, jumping from 187 in 2024.
