HALLSVILLE, Texas — Boston Red Sox pitcher Justin Slaten was honored by his alma mater Hallsville ISD.
On Monday, a ceremony was held to present Slaten's jersey to the HHS Athletics Hall. Slaten graduated in 2016 from Hallsville High School and is the first graduate from Hallsville to play Major League Baseball.
A spokesperson for Hallsville ISD said Slaten thanked the administration and his former coaches for their support, and urged young athletes to "put in the work" and never give up on their dreams.
Athletic Director and current head baseball coach Chris Whatley spoke about the pride the district has for Slaten as a Hallsville graduate. Coach Scott Mitchell lauded Slaten for his work ethic and remembering his roots in Hallsville.
