The Four Corners region has long hosted the heady spectacle of thoroughbred and quarter horse racing at a decades-old “racino,” but it all could come to a grinding halt — barns emptied and slot machines removed — in the next couple of years.
A proposal before the New Mexico Racing Commission would shift the license for SunRay Park & Casino in San Juan County to Curry County in Eastern New Mexico, at a site near Clovis. The commission is set to vote Dec. 22 on the move, which would create a major shakeup for the industry in New Mexico and a big loss for Farmington.
