You could tell by the friends and families coming to the Celebration of Life for Dr. Janice Rice at the Porterville Funeral and Cremation Center she was a beloved member of the community. People brought dishes of homemade food, pozole, and more to feed everyone.

There were between 75 to 100 people at the El Granito Church in Plainview on Sunday and more than 75 attended the celebration afterwards in Porterville with her friends, family, and loved ones.

Rice made it her life's work to feed, cloth, shelter, and minister to those in need in the communities of Porterville and Plainview and founded the El Granito Foundation in 1978.
