DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — Changes will be made to Duval County Public Schools' book ban policy (4.30).
On Monday night, the school board passed a revised version of the policy with a 5-2 vote.
Under the revised policy, any book "describing sexual conduct" will be pulled within five days of being challenged.
Parents and community members gathered for a rally outside of DCPS' headquarters Monday before the school board voted on the revised policy, arguing that the policy is expanding book bans and giving the school board more control over review committees.
The two board members who voted against revising the policy include Darryl Willie and Cindy Pearson. They said they did so to align with a federal judge who ruled in August that the new change to the policy is unconstitutional.
