WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump unveiled the details of his "Trump Accounts," an investment savings account for American children, on Tuesday.
Trump announced a $6.25 billion pledge from billionaires Michael and Susan Dell to the children's savings program and laid out the timeline for when parents can open accounts. The program, officially called Invest America, was passed under the president's tax and spending act in July.
Part of the legislation promised a $1,000 deposit from the U.S. Treasury to accounts for babies born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028.
The Dells hope their gift will encourage families to claim the accounts and deposit more money into them, even small amounts, so it will grow over time along with the stock market.
