Elections Alberta has released the results of the Forever Canada Citizen Initiative, showing a whopping 438,000 signatures collected by the petitioners.

Before Wednesday, the proponent (Thomas Lukaszuk) must return the original petition and all canvasser identification documents to Elections Alberta and destroy all copies of signature sheets.

The next step involves laying the proposal before the Legislative Assembly, which will then form a committee with a few members within it. Within 90 days of this committee forming, it may either lay a report with respect to the policy proposal, or table a report recommending that the policy proposal be taken to a provincial referendum.
