A Shenandoah County judge on Tuesday aligned Rochelle “Shelley” Gingerich’s misdemeanor case with that of fellow protester Michael Dart, setting both for trial on Jan. 23, 2026, as the county’s overpass-protest prosecutions continue moving through General District Court.

The cases stem from a series of weekly political demonstrations on Interstate 81 overpasses that began in March and quickly became a flash point in Shenandoah County. Protesters have displayed American and Ukrainian flags and signs such as “Save Our Democracy” and “No King Trump,” drawing both support and complaints. After months of peaceful gatherings, the Virginia Department of Transportation installed a “No Loitering or Assembly” sign on the Reservoir Road overpass in late August, prompting new enforcement.
