INDIANAPOLIS (WNDU) - Indiana House Republicans advanced a proposal to redraw the state’s congressional map in the middle of the U.S. Census Bureau cycle, with the goal of ensuring every district is represented by a Republican.
The House Committee on Elections and Apportionment passed the bill in an 8-5 vote after more than two and a half hours of public comment and debate.
Map changes would affect all districts
The proposed map would redraw all nine congressional districts. It would split Indianapolis into four districts and would unseat the state’s two Democratic representatives, André Carson in Indianapolis and Frank Mrvan in Gary.
In northern Indiana, parts of the second congressional district would include portions of the current third district, and portions of the current first
