A former volunteer fire chief from Gloucester County who admitted collecting thousands of child sexual abuse images over decades was sentenced to seven years in state prison on Monday.

Martin W. Matson , 71, of West Deptford, apologized for his behavior before he was sentenced and said he suffered from a pornography addiction.

The judge rejected his request to serve his sentence at home.

Matson was originally charged in April after a search of his residence turned up binders filled with printouts of child sexual abuse images.

Matson admitted downloading the images over more than 30 years and storing them on laptops in his basement and removable media, according to court documents.
