WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. —
The first snowfall of the season in Westmoreland County went about as well as townships, cities, and PennDOT could’ve hoped for.
Despite some delays, crews were able to use hundreds of tons of salt Tuesday morning to treat roads. Advertisement
"The forecast was pretty much what [Pittsburgh’s Action Weather] called it," Hempfield Township Public Works Director Austin Erhard said. "So, we had trucks on the road at four in the morning. Pretreating switched over to plowing operations right around six in the morning and continued until now. Guys are still wrapping up in some areas."
While Hempfield Township and PennDOT crews made it through their routes, there were some delays.
"There were a number of accidents, especially on some of the state route connectors,"
