MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The outdoor warning siren test scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled due to freezing temperatures, Dane County officials announced Tuesday.
According to Dane Co. officials, they were concerned the cold temperatures and ice building on the equipment could damage the siren heads and motor.
In Dane County, there are 144 outdoor warning sirens. They are designed to alert people when the National Weather Service issues warnings for tornadoes or thunderstorms that could produce tornado-like conditions.
The sirens are tested year-round at noon on the first Wednesday of every month.
Officials said the next scheduled will be at noon on January 7,2026.
