The Sewickley Academy boys basketball team made it to the PIAA Class 2A title game last season and is considered one of the top 2A teams in the state this season. The Panthers have built a strong team, partly by getting transfers, including a few from other countries.
Class 2A teams will not have to worry about Sewickley Academy after this season, but 4A teams will.
Although Sewickley Academy’s enrollment would place the Panthers in Class 2A for the next two seasons, the school has elected to play up in Class 4A for the 2026-27 and 27-28 seasons.
The PIAA realigns sports classifications every two years based on school enrollments. Schools had until Monday to notify the PIAA if they want to play in a higher classification. Sewickley Academy informed the PIAA that it wants to play 4A.
