Patients are being warned that Emergency Departments at a number of Greater Manchester hospitals are 'very busy' tonight (Tuesday, December 2).

The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, which operates Salford Royal Hospital, The Royal Oldham Hospital, Fairfield General Hospital in Bury and Rochdale Infirmary, has warned it is experiencing 'exceptionally high levels' of demand for care.

A spokesperson said: "We are currently experiencing exceptionally high levels of demand for care, and at times this may mean longer waiting times. We want to apologise for the impact that this may be having on some patients and their families, and to provide reassurance that patient safety continues to be our first priority.
