A pub has been evacuated in Rochdale tonight (Tuesday, December 2) after a fire broke out in its roof.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to a commercial property on Halifax Road in Wardle, understood to be the Green Gate pub, just before 8pm. Donna Cuddihy wrote on Facebook that she had been in the pub when the fire broke out in what appeared to be the upper story of a building. "Hope everything's OK, it's someone's home," she wrote.

Pictures shared on social media showed flames coming up through the roof and smoke coming from the building. Halifax Road was shut, with Greater Manchester Police putting a cordon in place to close the road as the fire service worked at the scene.
