The price of a train ticket for one Merseyside rail service has been called 'unjustifiable' after being criticised for being 'outdated, slow and unreliable'.

The Southport to Manchester line covers a distance of approximately 30 miles, but commuters have complained the one hour forty minute journey time is too long, and trains are frequently cancelled or delayed. To experience the issues for himself, Southport MP Patrick Hurley, conducted an experiment on November 22, where he live tweeted a trip from Southport to Manchester Oxford Road, catching the 12:03 train from Southport station.
