CENTER, Texas (KTRE) - Volunteers are especially crucial during the holiday season at Shelby County Outreach Ministries, Inc., where they prepare more than 500 meals a month for families in need.

The nonprofit said it serves about two-thirds of the community, and many of them are senior citizens who are living on only $800 a month.

That is why the nonprofit said it believes it is important not only to provide food boxes for families but also seniors who may be overlooked this winter.

The nonprofit said it makes food boxes year-around and are always looking for more help and donations.

The outreach center is at 930 Shelbyville St. in Center and is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
