INDIANAPOLIS — The debate over Indiana’s congressional districts is heating up after the release of a potential map that redraws every one of the nine districts. It splits the Democratic stronghold of Marion County into four separate districts.
As the current map stands, the majority of Marion County makes up Democrat Andre Carson’s 7th Congressional District. All of Indianapolis is part of that district, too. Decatur, Perry and Franklin townships are currently represented by Republican Jefferson Shreve’s 6th Congressional District.
Under the proposed map, Lawrence and half of Washington townships are in the new 7th District, which stretches east to the Ohio border.
