After details emerged following his arrest in Bow on a driving while intoxicated charge earlier this fall, Shawn Haggart has retired as Derry fire chief.
Haggart, a 48-year-old Chester resident, pleaded no contest to DWI in district court in Concord on Nov. 20 after he was pulled over after midnight Oct 18 while driving a department-owned emergency vehicle on Route 3A in Bow.
Haggart was placed on paid administrative leave after his arrest . On Tuesday, Haggart’s name, biography, picture and contact information were no longer on the Derry Fire Department’s website .
During Tuesday night’s Town Council meeting, Town Administrator Mike Fowler nominated acting chief Greg Laro to interim chief and announced Haggart’s retirement. Town councilors approved Laro’s appointment, 7-0.
