The region’s first winter storm is bringing significant snowfall to parts of Massachusetts, creating hazardous driving conditions on Tuesday evening.
Snowfall rates are expected to be 1 to 2 inches per hour north of Interstate 90 and especially near Route 2 for the evening commute, according to the National Weather Service.
While eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island are seeing mostly rain, a transition to snow is expected later Tuesday night before the storm ends by Wednesday morning.
Six inches of snow were reported in Otis as of 3:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
Snowfall totals range between 2 and 4 inches for most towns that have reported to the National Weather Service, which are mostly above Interstate 90.
