In his second year as an NFL quarterback, Drake May is in pole position for the MVP award with the regular season coming down to the wire.
After being second in betting odds over the past two weeks to veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford, Maye has overtaken the Los Angeles Rams quarterback as the frontrunner following another surgeon-like win over the New York Giants.
Per DraftKings, Maye is now a minus favorite (-135) to win the MVP as a sophomore quarterback, having been drafted in 2024. Stafford, who was the leader heading into week 13, stumbled in Carolina, turning the ball over three times in an upset loss to the Panthers on the road. Although his statistics are still glowing with 32 touchdowns to only four interceptions, the loss to a team he was expected to beat, paired with Maye having a clean win on Monday Night Football, has put him in the runner-up position (+125).
It truly has become a two-horse race between the two quarterbacks. One, the prince promised to a fractured dynasty in New England looking to rebuild the greatest North American sports empire of the 21st century. The other, already a Super Bowl champion, is in his 17th year and wants to win his first MVP to not only solidify his illustrious career but also gain the final piece that will affirm his spot in Canton at the Hall of Fame.
For long shots, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (+1400) is making a late-season push with back-to-back wins over last year's Super Bowl participants. Jordan Love (+1700) is right behind him after some impressive wins for the Packers, and another NFC North quarterback, Caleb Williams (+6500), might not have any true shot at the award but might get the No. 1 seed in the entire conference with the surprising Chicago Bears.
Reigning MVP winner Josh Allen is all but out of the conversation for a repeat (+3000), as he would need not only a heroic end to the season but for both Maye and Stafford to melt away in December.
