VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — With just the click of a button, Virginia Beach police officers may be able to translate more than 50 dialects of languages within seconds.

The police department is rolling out new artificial intelligence technology that's located right inside of an officer’s body camera.

Officials in the department who tested out the new tool told 13News Now that the new technology could shave crucial seconds off emergency responses.

“The efficiency, the time saved, and not just for the officer but for the citizen we’re interacting with,” said Brandon Kyle, a VBPD technology administrator.

With the new technology, if a Spanish speaker approaches an officer who doesn’t know the language, they can respond quickly and efficiently.
