CLEVELAND, Ohio – Avelo Airlines, a Texas-based startup carrier, reached out to Cleveland officials in recent years about launching commercial service at Burke Lakefront Airport.
The conversation went nowhere.
According to airport spokeswoman Michele Dynia, the city outlined the costs the carrier would incur at the small downtown airport “related to terminal infrastructure as well as staffing and operational considerations.”
Dynia added, “Since that information was provided, there’s been no indication of their intent to start service at Burke.”
At roughly the same time, consultants were working on two city-funded studies that would ultimately outline a path for closing Burke.
