DIXON (WREX) — Jared Shaner stepped down from his role as Dixon's head football coach, a position he hadn't initially anticipated holding.

"It's one of those, I think it was just meant to be," Shaner said.

Before becoming the head coach, Shaner served as the athletic director and later as the principal at Dixon. Balancing these roles with coaching was challenging, but it allowed him to coach his sons Tyler and Cullen, who excelled under his leadership.

"I got to be one of those lucky dads who was the head football coach and gets to watch your sons go through the program for four years," Shaner said. "I was fortunate enough to have both of them. I think they would tell you the same thing."

Tyler continues to play at Wartburg College in Iowa, while Cullen attends college in Illinois. Sha
