THE Scottish Government is being asked to “clarify” its stance on holding a grooming gangs inquiry by Scottish Labour.

In a Holyrood debate on Wednesday, the party is also set to call for independent oversight of the Police Scotland review into group-based sexual exploitation of children.

Pauline McNeill, Labour’s justice spokesperson, has tabled the motion for debate that calls for “transparency” in tackling group-based child sexual exploitation and abuse.

It comes after Scottish Justice Secretary Angela Constance told MSPs in September that Professor Alexi Jay shared her view that “she does not support further inquiries into child sexual abuse and exploitation, given the significant time and resource already spent in the review that she led, the Casey audit and other reviews”.
