PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A man is in the hospital after being shot in the chest during an attempted robbery on Tuesday night in the city's East Mount Airy neighborhood.

Police say the 37-year-old man had been out walking around 11:30 p.m. the unit block of East Pleasant Street when he was approached by two suspects who tried to rob him of his coat at gunpoint.

The victim told investigators he attempted to grab one of the suspect's guns when he was shot in the chest.

As the suspects ran away, the man managed to make it back to his house down the block.

That's where police found him and took him to Einstein Hospital in critical but stable condition.
