MEDINA COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - A dangerous intersection is now safer for drivers.

Starting Wednesday, State Route 83 (Avon Lake Road) and State Route 162 (Chatham Road) is an all-stop intersection.

According to Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), the intersection was a two-way stop, requiring only traffic along SR 162 to stop before entering or crossing SR 83.

Between 2019-2023 there were 21 crashes at that intersection and 17 of them were angle crashes, according to ODOT.

In 2024, a 13 year old was killed in a crash involving a dump truck.

“We did some quick fixes that we could do, trimming trees, trimming brush back, adding that additional signage,” said ODOT spokesperson Crystal Neelon, “but because we were seeing the crash patterns continue, that required us to take a deeper l
