A woman has died after being struck during a hit-and-run in the west end of Glasgow.

Emergency services were called to Castlebank Street at around 8.45pm on Tuesday, December 2, following reports that a female pedestrian had been struck by a car close to the Burger King and Starbucks crossing island. She was rushed from the scene to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where she was tragically pronounced dead a short time later.

Police say that the woman was struck by a small black or dark coloured car, which failed to stop at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to identify and trace the vehicle.

The road remains closed and drivers are asked to avoid the area.
