A police officer who went missing after a night out is believed to have drowned, a coroner's court has heard.

PC Rehaan Akhtar was last seen in the early hours of Sunday, November 23.

The 28-year-old had been drinking with friends in Bristol but did not return to the hostel where he was staying.

His body was recovered by divers from Bristol harbourside on the morning of November 24.

Avon Coroner’s Court heard how Mr Akhtar is believed to have drowned in the harbour.

He was pronounced dead at 10.39am by PC Adam Rowland at Narrow Quay, and identified by his mother Fozia Akhtar.

A post-mortem examination gave a provisional cause of death as drowning.
