After Saturday’s heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Notts County, which condemned Bristol Rovers to an eighth consecutive League Two defeat, the Gas bounced back with a penalty shootout victory against Cambridge United to book their place in the last 16 of the Vertu Trophy.

Rovers goalkeeper Luke Southwood saved two penalties in the shootout after Cambridge came back from 2-0 down at half-time to send the game to spot-kicks.
