Douglas County got its first taste of winter on Tuesday, Nov. 25 and it was bitter.
Alexandria received 5.3 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service. There were also strong wind gusts, low visibility and chilly temperatures of around 25 degrees.
Although this kind of weather is expected this time of year, drivers didn’t seem ready for it. It’s as if people forgot how to drive when there’s snow and ice on the roads.
It wasn’t just crash heavy in Douglas County. Hundreds of crashes were reported on Minnesota roads between noon on Tuesday and noon on Wednesday. The Minnesota State Patrol reported 436 property damage crashes, 553 vehicles off the road, 54 jackknifed semis, 37 injury crashes and 23 vehicle spinouts.
