A Maryland family is grieving the sudden loss of Masey Ceesay-Sanneh, a mother of three who collapsed and died the day before Thanksgiving while preparing food for her loved ones.
Her brother, Yusupha Ceesay, said Ceesay-Sanneh went into cardiac arrest on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025, as she was getting ready for the holiday meal.
The loss stunned relatives across Maryland and The Gambia, where she grew up and where her family hopes to return her body.
Yusupha Ceesay described his sister as a devoted mother of three boys, “all under 21, one who is special needs.”
He called her “a devoted wife, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, niece, and friend.”
For years, she worked as a CNA and Med Tech caring for elderly patients, her loved ones said.
Friends who worked with Masey said the loss has been felt deeply.
Jamie Clark shared that “Masey was such an amazing CNA, also an amazing person to be around. I’ve known Masey for almost 18 years. She will be truly missed. Her passing has made a devastating impact at OG. My prayers and condolences to Masey’s family at this time. Masey will be forever missed.”
A GoFundMe was created by her brother to help cover the cost of sending her home to The Gambia, which the family said is their most important wish as they navigate their grief.
The fundraiser had raised more than $7,000 as of Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Loved ones are urging the community to help however they can. In one post, a family member wrote, “Every donation, no matter the amount, can help her family send her home to The Gambia during this difficult time.”
And in a final note that has stuck with those she cared for.
“She was always a caretaker," her brother added. "And now it’s time for her to go home.”
