To the Editor:
I admire Syracuse University football head coach Fran Brown’s enthusiasm and aspirations. But no amount of hope or shuffling of a coaching staff will bolster the plausibility that Syracuse University’s football Orange will ever win a national title or even ascend into FBS playoff contention. The table is set, and the dozen or so teams now at the top of the NCAA football food chain are entrenched, padding rosters with the most well-paid, professionally bound players.
The rest of us wannabes in the lower tiers of Division 1 will scrounge for a few promising castoffs, hoping, at best, to earn a bid to the inconsequential array of postseason garbage bowls.
This sobriety is heartbreaking for alums, like me. But facts are facts: SU is not a football school. Our one title came
