Authorities have charged two individuals following the interception of over $900,000 worth of drugs and a loaded handgun at Calgary International Airport. The incident occurred last week, with law enforcement agencies working together to prevent a significant drug shipment from reaching the streets. On November 20, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Calgary Police Service, and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) received an alert from German border authorities regarding a drug shipment arriving in Calgary. With the assistance of the CBSA, police located and seized the package at the airport. The following day, November 21, police identified the intended recipient of the package at a residence on the 500 block of Cantrell Place S.W. A search warrant executed at the location uncovered a substantial amount of illegal substances, including 12.9 kilograms of ketamine, 89.2 grams of hydromorphone, and 26.4 grams of cocaine. Additionally, officers found a loaded SR9 handgun, 9mm ammunition, Canadian currency, and various drug paraphernalia such as packaging materials, a weigh scale, and a buffing agent. The two individuals charged are 36-year-old Scott Sinclair Leier and 34-year-old Kelly Corinne Robinson. They face a total of nine charges, including three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of importing narcotics, and one count of possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, among other related charges. Leier and Robinson are scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. Staff Sgt. Kerry Parsons from District 2 A emphasized the importance of collaboration among law enforcement agencies and border partners. "By working together, we were able to intercept a significant shipment of narcotics before it could reach our streets," Parsons stated. "Removing over $900,000 worth of drugs, along with a loaded firearm from circulation is a major step in protecting our community from the violence and harm that often accompany organized drug trafficking." Authorities encourage anyone with information about suspected drug trafficking to contact Calgary police at 403-266-1234.
