On Dec. 2, the city of Middletown Common Council approved a resolution to amend the city code to expand senior citizen property tax exemptions.

All eight members present at a live cast meeting via the city's website voted “yes” to pass. One member, Andrew Green, was absent.

The measure was proposed in November by Mayor Joseph DeStefano.

“Our seniors have spent their lives contributing to the strength of our community, and many now struggle to keep up with rising costs on fixed incomes,” DeStefano said in a statement. “Expanding this exemption allows us to give back to them by providing genuine relief and ensuring that seniors can afford to remain in their homes.”
