BOONE, N.C. (WBTV) - Two threatening calls were found to have been hoaxes at Appalachian State University on Tuesday, according to an update shared by the school.

The Dec. 2 calls came in around 10 p.m., and threatened safety in the Sanford Hall and New River Hall areas of campus. The update did not say exactly what the threat was.

App State shared the final update just before 11:30 p.m. and gave the all clear. The university did say that police searched both the Sanford and New River buildings, and that increased patrols would continue out of an abundance of caution.

Tuesday’s threats followed another hoax this past weekend. Such calls are often referred to as “swatting” calls, and since the FBI started tracking them in 2023, thousands have been reported across the country.
